ESCAPE

The Pyrenees

The Pyrénées form a genuine bond between France and Spain. Since ancient times, men have been under the spell of these beautiful mountains. They’ve walked these paths over and again, yet these same paths today beg to be explored for the first time. There are innumerable hiking trails to chose from, from afternoon strolls to the most arduous and athletic altitude fix. This is a place where nature, wildlife and men truly live in harmony.
Our camping ground is right in the foothills of the Pyrénées. Mountain hikes for all levels can be arranged from scenic Chiroulet, at the end of a deep valley just upstream from Bagnères. Of course, the National Park is nearby and invites you to escape more
fully still.

The Pic du Midi

The Pic du Midi peaks at 2877 meters and looms over our valley. It is accessible via cable car from La Mongie, at the base of the famed Col du Tourmalet and merely 20km away from le Monlôo. It is a national treasure and tourism high spot for families, groups, school classes and corporate events. A restaurant is on the premises, open all year long, along with a fascinating museum retracing the history of the site and its many breaktroughs in astronomy.

Spain

Some among you will set foot in Spain without even noticing it, during a hike along our altitude trails. For others, Spain is always right around the corner by car and may be the perfect excuse to escape for a day’s worth of explorations away from the Monlôo: through the feat of engineering that is the Aragnouet-Bielsa tunnel, or via Vielha and the Val d’Aran about an hour away from Bagnères, across the Somport and Pourtalet passes to the West, or even still through Andorra to the East.
The changes are drastic: dark green slopes on the french side turn to ocre earth tones on the spanish side, firs turn to olive trees, granite to limestone, glacier-carved valleys to steep cuestas in Alto Aragon. An enchanting adventure awaits you just a short ride away. The regions of Bigorre and Aragon share a strong history. Click below for suggestions for your upcoming visit.
