RELAX

Aquensis

While the therapeutic qualities of the thermal springs in Bagnères de Bigorre have been known and enjoyed since ancient times, the Aquensis development in 2003 has brought to them a resolutely modern and playful dimension. The Aquensis center encompasses 3000 m2 and is entirely dedicated to wellness. Enveloped in warm wood tones, the main room basks in natural light and the pool is sprinkled with spa areas, water curtains, forced currents and hydromassage stations. It’s truly an architectural masterpiece, and its whole purpose is your relaxation.
Bath therapy, thermal showers, massages, beauty care, slimness programs, etc.: all treatments are provided by a certified and attentive staff. Only five minutes away from the Monlôo and within walking distance of the heart and buzz of Bagnères’ arts and crafts area. We can’t think of a better place to help you relax and rediscover yourself.

Golf

On the hilltops overlooking Bagnères and barely 5 minutes away from the Monlôo, the Golf de Bigorre is a great mountain course graced with spectacular views of the Pyrénées mountain range. Not unlike a british seaside links, it’s set on hard and rolling turf and features fast greens, challenging rough and constant changes in elevation.
Designed to challenge the best players in championship play, the course conditioning makes it very enjoyable as well for higher handicap players. With the view straight toward the Pic du Midi on your walk down the 18th fairway, you’ll quickly forget the day’s lost strokes. Wait a minute, who are we to assume you’ve hit anything less than stellar shots all day long? No doubt your drive is straight, your irons sharp and your putter rolls true. Then click below and tee it up on our home course!

Lakes and Fishing

The celebrated Lac Bleu, the Lac de Payolle, the lac d’Oncet and many more are set in beautiful mountain surroundings in the area and are always great to explore. Fishing in our region is quite simply an act of love and communion with nature. Our rivers are cold and our mountain lakes are deep blue. You’ll find yourself angling here for three main species: saumon de fontaine, omble chevalier and last but not least the fario trout!
No need to travel far: the Adour river tumbles down as a mountain stream from the heights of Gripp, Payolle and Lesponne and as a wild whitewater river, it passes barely 200m outside the Monlôo. Get your flies ready, or your bobbers, floats and bouncers and click below to get started. Make sure to keep an eye upstream: our champions in Olympic kayaking are training here!

Festivals

Festivals in our region are renowned for their originality, the international level of their programs and their knack for showcasing what’s best in our environmental and cultural heritage: each summer for instance, Gavarnie, a Unesco World Heritage Site, lends its natural ampitheatre to talented stage directors. And though it may be hard to believe, concerts of world class classical music are organized at the summit of Pic du Midi!
Stage plays in Gavarnie, piano in Bagnères, jazz in Luz, human-scale raggedy dolls in Campan, horse shows in Tarbes, etc. The list is not short on variety and themes run the gamut from classical to folkart. Far from tearing our cultural heritage into opposite directions, this kaleidoscope of activities is, season after season and piece by piece, building our regional identity.
