Bagnères

Our camping is located 2 km from the center of Bagnères, a small town of 8000 in the foothills of the Pyrenees and at an altitude of 550 meters. Bagneres is set in a wide an beautiful valley and never feels crowded, even during high season, with one exception: on Saturday mornings, when local farmers and merchants set up shop in the heart of the old city for a fresh market that’s received numerous accolades for its colorful diversity and the freshness of its organic products.
Nature, mountains, therapeutic springs, sports, cultural events, etc. And of course the famous ‘transhumance’ in June, bringing sheep to high pasture for the summer along with a statue of the mythical ‘Giant’ of the city all the way to the Col du Tourmalet!

Baronnies

The Baronnies start on the immediate outskirts of Bagnères. This is a region of hills and valleys, away from the hussle of modern life. Priorities here are set by mother nature. Often wrapped in a light mist (researchers have detected hints of an Amazon-like ecosystem here!), the Baronnies grace the foothills of our Pyrénées with an air of enchantment.
Asque, Uzer, Fréchendets, Esparros, Lahitte, Banios… The Baronnies unveil dozens of small villages along the way, and many striking architectural and cultural marvels, such as the 11th century Mauvezin Castle, 12th century Escaladieu Abbey, or the retable at Avezac. Skilled craftsmanship (wool, woodwork, ceramics, jams) is a staple of the area.

Natural Caves

Around Bagnères you’ll find many spectacular underground caves, some ranked among the most beautiful in the world. They are special for their karst geology and traces of prehistoric activity, but no need to be scientifically inclined to enjoy your visit: they’re quite simply a lot of fun to explore, and not just for the kids. Médous, Betharram, Esparros, Gargas…
Unlike la Pierre St Martin further West, these are not technical underground chimneys accessible to experts only. While their authentic character has been well preserved, they are well-developed and secured areas where everyone can feel safe and explore
fabulous stalagtites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls, aragonite petals, underground waterways, etc.

Lourdes

Lourdes, one of the world’s most celebrated pilgrimage destinations, is merely 20km from Bagnères, at the base of yet another impressive valley in the Pyrénées. More than 6 million visitors come to Lourdes each year for spiritual comfort and communion with the Virgin Mary. In spite of its worldwide fame, Lourdes has managed to remain true to its roots as a little village tucked in the mountains. It’s a place where people of faith and entrigued tourists come to meet, exchange ideas and share their cultures.
